Most students studying at the University of Liverpool choose to spend their first year living in halls of residence. However there normally comes a time during your university career when you will want to live in a shared house in the private sector. The move from halls of residence to a house where you have a contract with a private landlord is a smooth and problem free experience for most students, however for a number of students this is not the case. Problems can arise with landlords regarding anything from repairs not being carried out to not being able to retrieve their deposit at the end of the year.

In order to alleviate the problem of students having to deal with rogue landlords Liverpool Student Homes (LSH) was established. Liverpool Student Homes is a joint initiative between the universities of Liverpool and their respective student unions and it should be the only place you need to go to find accommodation. It works to increase the choice and improve the standard of accommodation available to students. The bureau holds information on around 3500 landlords and ladies and 10,000 students use the service every year.

All landlords who register their property with LSH have to comply with a rigorous code of practice which gives you the confidence that your rented house will be of a certain standard and you will also have the support of LSH should any complaints about the property/your landlord or breaches of the code arise.

Furthermore, as landlords advertising through LSH have to meet certain standards, and use a Liverpool Student Homes contract to rent their accommodation out, using this service protects you from rogue landlords and dodgy properties!
