Hope SU, like many other student unions around the country, affiliates to the National Union of Students (NUS), (however we are not a branch or office of NUS - Liverpool Hope SU is totally independent). Many people perceive the NUS to be nothing more than the providers of a discount card for students. However, they are much, much more. Their most important role comes through providing a national voice for students. An individual student union would find it very difficult to get access to government ministers, let alone, significantly affect government policy. This is where the NUS come in, as the national voice and representatives of students.
